Can only the wealthy bring up a child?

Each year, our offspring (otherwise known as those little bundles of joy) are costing an increasing amount of money to bring up. the insurance firm LV conducted a survey which revealed that the average expense of bring up each kid to the age of 21 is now hit a staggering total of £210,847. This works out to £9668 a year, or £26.49 every single day.

I am assuming however, that this figure is far less for those parents who refuse to buy their kids a car for their 18th birthday, or purchase them the latest gadget every time one appears on the market. Those who kit out their offspring in branded labels no doubt sway this average slightly. The total includes £750 (approximately) per year that is spent on a child’s clothing Half of this would have been amazing to me as a kid brought up with hand-me-downs and charity shop sourced clothing!

The total also includes over four and a half thousand pounds worth of pocket money across the entire 21 years. If a child begins to be given disposable income from the age of eight, then this works out to around £350 per year. Paradoxically, I was given a fiver every month and not until I was fourteen years old. I may sound like an old fashioned and but honestly, I am not even twenty four yet!

Adults who are hell bent on adhering to every desire of their child could see themselves with no choice but to to take out a massiveloan (or “hitel” as my Hungarian dad calls it!) I am sure that is I ever have kids then they will not cost as much as this! Any events of “Pleeeeeeease buy me this! Waaaaaa sob sob gyorshitelek criiiiiies!” in the shops will be greeted with a good old fashioned smack and not rewarded with whatever they are after!
