Choosing from the mass of pushchairs on the market can seem difficult; particularly if you are a first time parent. However to make the process easier and more efficient, there are some key steps you can take, and things to consider before starting the shopping process.
Firstly, be sure to measure the size of your car boot, if you have one. This may sound silly, but no-one wants to be stuck at the supermarket trying to shove an oversized pushchair into a car boot, whilst the baby screams and food drops out of the grocery bags.
That’s why it’s so important to measure the car boot and ascertain what sort of size of pushchair your transport can accommodate. If you are anticipating taking public transport instead of a car, consider your strength and whether or not you’ll want to pull around a bulky pushchair that isn’t easily collapsible.
Secondly, if you do have a car, think about whether you’ll want a pushchair that integrates or works alongside a travel system. Many of these systems allow the pushchair to be transformed into a car seat; a handy solution for those who may be on the go a lot.
Thirdly, consider how sturdy you’ll want your pushchair to be. For young babies up to about age one, a sturdy, robust offering is probably the most appropriate. Youngsters have little control over their bodies, and so need something that will fully support them as their bones develop and bodies grow. Also, it’s worth getting a pushchair with a reclining seat, and adjustable leg support; as this will provide optimum comfort for your bundle of joy.
Lastly, ensure you do not buy a pushchair merely because of its looks. It can seem tempting to buy a model covered in leopard print, or dowsed in bright patterns - simply because it looks cool or stylish. However if it doesn’t meet the required safety specifications, or is uncomfortable for baby then it really isn’t worth it.
