Dividing opinions when it comes to films isn’t a hard thing to do. Just bring up the James Bond franchise and you’re bound to split people right down the middle: who’s a Connery fan? Who preferred Moore’s humour to Brosnan’s steely composure? Why is Bond now blond-haired?
Every person is going to have their own favourite Bond, Bond film and Bond villains or gadgets - it’s a given. Yet all the films are pretty much cut from the same cloth. They carry much the of the same themes (good vs evil), plot elements and over-the-top action sequences, so really, you just either need to be a fan of the franchise or not.
Disney is much the same. Despite having a long-established production history - going as far back as 1930 - its films carry much of the same messages and themes throughout. Only the characters change… and each film’s presentation.
This is why Disney has long endured in the hearts of adults and children alike. Most of us have had Disney toys are some point, or dressed up in Disney fancy dress costumes for a party. Disney is an institution, much like Bond. It defines what kind of people we are; based on what kind of Disney films we like.
While some might relate to Dumbo, for his inner strength and resilience to bullying, others might be besotted with WALL-E for his braveness or dogged determination to chase the one he loves across the galaxy. Yet, despite these films being more than 70 years apart, they both draw similar parallels from each other - as does every other Disney film!
You see, it doesn’t really matter whether a Disney film is old or new. What matters is that the story and character’s journey can be enjoyed by people of all ages each and every time. This is why we’ll always have an admiration for Disney’s productions and will continue to invest in its goods.
