Cheap but cheerful things to do with the kids this half term

There are loads of brilliant things that you and your children can do during the half-term holidays. Below, we’ve put together some great ideas for some harmless fun that’ll ensure you and your children are entertained, and having a fantastic time together as a family..

Despite more cold and damp, rather than sunny and warm weather being forecast, you and the kids can still wrap up and head out into the garden or your local park to make the most of the great outdoors! Why not have a really interactive game of hide-and-seek or explorers and dress up in camouflage colours and face paints to make it all that more fun? You can capture the moment with pictures of your little ones dressed-up as intrepid adventurers.

Or, you could hand over control of the camera to your kids and observe as they make-like-miniature-David Attenborough’s by documenting the natural world around them; from bugs to birds. May be, collect a few feathers and leaves for creating nature collages once you get home?. It’s astounding how a handful of leaves and feathers can be turned into original works of art with a sprinkle of glitter, coloured paper or card, and other bits and bobs. NB: Avoid additional laundry by getting the aprons out and putting some newspaper down first.

Why not host a childrens pyjamas party? Let your children invite some of their best friends over? You’ll be the ‘flavour of the month’ amongst the other kids’ tired-out parents, whilst your children think you’re a good sport and have fun playing games and spending time together with their pals.

Why not spend some time with your children making a family tree? You can take a trip down memory lane, recall real gems of stories and favourite images of family members in the process too. It’s also an excuse to visit relatives you’ve not seen in a while, or have the grandparents look after them for a while if you’ve got a few errands to run too. Your kids will have a great time looking through back-in-the-day funny pictures of you in your flares, and learning about their family background. NB: Family tree projects are great for checking that your address and birthday books are up-to-date.

If you need to update their uniforms for summer, get your children up early and head out to the high street with them at the start of half term week. Rest easy with the knowledge that they’re ready for the new term, be proud of the fact that you’ve avoided the last minute rush, and make the most of the holiday week! Think outside the box a bit and you’ll find that all obligatory tasks can be made into fun family time.
